Transport in Dijon

Dijon has a very efficient public transport network of buses and trams. Two tram lines were recently added to the re-designed network. Divia public network offers a simple and cheap way to go from one point to another.

The bus network

2 tram lines and 5 main bus lines offer a high level of service, from 5h30 am to 0h15 am everyday. Moreover, 12 urban lines, 3 local lines and innovative services (Corol, Flexo, Pleine Lune, City and Express) supplement wisely the global bus network in Dijon (more information here).

The single ticket, named “stopgap solution” costs 1.50 €, and is valid one hour on all lines. You can purchase one in every bus, or in an automatic machine at every tram stop.

Cheaper options are available (e.g. Daily Pass, 10 tickets-pack, etc…) at the tram stops, or at the Divia main office, close to the railway station (16, place Darcy – DIJON).

Be mindful : Please validate your ticket or your electronic card as soon as you get on the bus, the tram, or another public transport. Inspectors are not very lenient with offenders, and the fine is pretty high.

There are free shuttles in downtown Dijon, which are also connected to the main network and allow to move easily in the heart of the city. Shuttles are every 6 minutes from Monday to Saturday from 7 am till 8 pm (shuttle map).

The tram network

The 2 new tram lines are active since 2012, there are 20 km of lines, 37 stops, 32 streetcars of 30 meters length which can carry 200 to 220 persons each. Tickets for trams and buses are the same. You will find all the needed informations at this website.

With your own car

Setting up the tram lines reorganized the roads in Dijon. Many one-way streets, cycle tracks and bus lanes were added, especially downtown. Be carful not to inadvertedly frive on a bus lane, as they sometimes begin or end quite abruptly. Fortunately, this year there will not be as much roadwork as the two last years, thus it is clearly easier to drive in Dijon. However, pay attention to the somewhat confusing road signs, and the numerous automatic speed cameras and fixed cameras near stop lights.

There are several subterranean municipal parking lots in the inner city, where you can leave your car during the night (0.20 € / hour from 7 pm till 7:30 am, 1.50 € / hour in the day).

Parking space may be hard to find in downtown Dijon if you do not want to pay for it. With the tram lines built, several free parking areas have closed.

Taxis

A taxi stand is available close to the railway station, opposite to the Office du Tourisme. You can also call a taxi at Taxi Radio Dijon: +33 (0)3 80 41 41 12.

Bicycles

In Dijon, Cyclists benefit from a convenient geography. There are many cycle tracks. The Dijon Office du Tourisme offers a bike renting service (Phone: +33(0)892 700 558 (0.34 € / mn.)). Moreover, access to the Velodi service allows you to use the bikes of more than 40 stops distributed throughout the city.

Walking

Dijon is a middle-sized city, where all the monuments can be visited easily by walking.
